Statement of the Coalition for Higher Ambition ahead of the ENVI Council on 9th October

Climate action

A unique coalition of businesses, associations, investor groups, local and regional authorities, and civil society organisations have called upon EU Environment Ministers to step up Europe’s climate commitments.

They have urged them to:

  • adopt a COP24 position that acknowledges the inadequacy of current NDCs and shows a commitment on behalf of the EU to increase its 2030 target before 2020 in line with the long-term objectives of the Paris Agreement;
  • support at least the target proposed by the European Parliament’s Environment Committee as a minimum threshold of the transport sector’s contribution to the decarbonisation of the European economy.
